The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) calls for an end to the conflict in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) affecting children and their families. The UN agency denounced in its report « global indifference » to the situation in eastern DRC; An indifference which « threatens a generation of children ».

Displaced families live in overcrowded settlements that lack clean water, health care and other basic services. Others are hosted by poor local communities.

“Displaced children experience nothing but fear, poverty and violence. Generation after generation, they can only think of survival,”said Edouard Beigbeder, UNICEF Representative for the DRC.
