{"id":1029,"date":"2015-03-05T19:53:35","date_gmt":"2015-03-05T19:53:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/en.humanrightsagency.com\/?p=1029"},"modified":"2015-03-05T19:53:35","modified_gmt":"2015-03-05T19:53:35","slug":"gaza-un-humanitarian-arm-warns-that-blockade-undermining-living-standards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.agencedh.org\/en\/index.php\/2015\/03\/05\/gaza-un-humanitarian-arm-warns-that-blockade-undermining-living-standards\/","title":{"rendered":"Gaza: UN humanitarian arm warns that blockade \u2018undermining\u2019 living standards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The living conditions of nearly 2 million Palestinians residing in the Gaza Strip have been undermined by the enduring blockade against the enclave, the United Nations humanitarian office reported today.<\/p>\n<p>The longstanding restrictions on the movement of people and goods to and from Gaza have led to steadily deteriorating living standards for Gaza\u2019s 1.8 million people since the imposition of the Israeli blockade in June 2007.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese restrictions have reduced access to livelihoods, essential services and housing, disrupted family life, and undermined the people\u2019s hopes for a secure and prosperous future,\u201d the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian (OCHA) said in their latest study on trends in movement of people and goods into and out of the territory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe situation has been further compounded by the restriction imposed since 2013 by the Egyptian authorities at Rafah Crossing, which had become the main crossing point used by Palestinians in the Gaza Strip given the above restrictions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Currently, Palestinians in Gaza can enter and exit the Strip through three access points \u2013 the Rafah Crossing connecting Gaza with Egypt and the Kerem Shalom and Erez crossings connecting into Israel.
