{"id":2519,"date":"2015-11-26T09:39:19","date_gmt":"2015-11-26T09:39:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/en.humanrightsagency.com\/?p=2519"},"modified":"2015-11-26T09:39:19","modified_gmt":"2015-11-26T09:39:19","slug":"french-comedian-dieudonne-is-sent-to-jail-over-anti-semitic-remarks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.agencedh.org\/en\/french-comedian-dieudonne-is-sent-to-jail-over-anti-semitic-remarks\/","title":{"rendered":"French comedian Dieudonn\u00e9 is sent to jail over anti-semitic remarks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The controversial French comedian Dieudonn\u00e9 has been convicted in Belgium for incitement to hatred and the denial of the Holocaust.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s been sentenced to two months in prison and a fine of 9,000 euros.<\/p>\n<p>The performer made the offending remarks during a show in Li\u00e8ge.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, the European court of Human Rights in Strasbourg ruled against Dieudonn\u00e9 in a separate case, deciding that freedom of speech did not protect \u201cracist and anti-semitic performances\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Dieudonn\u00e9 was protesting a fine he received from a French court in 2009 for inviting a Holocaust denier on stage.
