According to the UN, suspected cases of cholera in South Sudan are increasing and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has stepped up its operations in the country.<\/p>\n
UNICEF announced that the actual number of cholera cases in the country still to be confirmed, because of lack of laboratory equipment needed for diagnosis.\u00a0UNICEF also said it was providing its partners with drugs, infusions and other health products to treat the disease.<\/p>\n
The Fund said\u00a0it was working with the Ministry of Health of South Sudan and partner organizations to provide medical supplies and sanitation, and community awareness.<\/p>\n
“In the\u00a0UN\u00a0protection\u00a0sites\u00a0for\u00a0civilians where thousands of people continue to shelter from the fighting that erupted in Juba nearly two weeks, the daily water supply continue to be provided\u00a0despite the initial difficulties of access”, said the UNICEF representative in South Sudan, Mahimbo Mdoe.
