The objective of this gathering was precisely to protest against the law passed in the National Assembly to not only postpone the presidential election until December 15, but also to extend the mandate of President Macky Sall.<\/em><\/h6>\n

Senegal plunged into crisis on Saturday after the repression of demonstrations during which two young men were killed, according to Express.<\/p>\n

Dakar, the capital of Senegal, was the scene of violent clashes this Friday between opposition activists and the police.<\/p>\n

The objective of this gathering was precisely to protest against the law passed in the National Assembly to not only postpone the presidential election until December 15, but also to extend the mandate of President Macky Sall.<\/p>\n

Witnesses said some were even briefly arrested, and others injured in the wake of these demonstrations. Reporters Without Borders (RSF) was also outraged by the targeting of at least five journalists by police in Dakar.<\/p>\n

Senegal has been regularly shaken since 2021 by episodes of protest linked to legal proceedings against one of the main opponents, Ousmane Sonko, now incarcerated, with dozens of people killed and hundreds arrested.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
