Two top United Nations humanitarian officials on Tuesday called on the Security Council to use its influence to secure a cessation of hostilities to prevent the famine from spreading.<\/em><\/h6>\n

With famine declared last week in parts of Darfur, Sudan, the UN says a cessation of hostilities is the only lasting solution that will prevent the famine from spreading.<\/p>\n

26 million people are suffering from acute hunger in Sudan, more than 10 million people have been forced to flee their homes due to violence, hunger and deprivation, Sudan\u2019s health system has collapsed, and an entire generation of children is missing out on a second consecutive year of education, according to the Director of Operations and Advocacy at the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Edem Wosornu…<\/p>\n
