\u201cThe disregard for the rules of war and the retreat from multilateralism threaten human rights and the global order,\u201d warns the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.<\/em><\/h6>\n

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights sounded the alarm on Monday, denouncing the growing challenges to international law and the laws of armed conflict, which are essential for global peace and stability. According to him, the glorification of violence and the withdrawal of some states from the multilateral system are seriously undermining human rights and the international order.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the opening of the 60th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Volker T\u00fcrk highlighted “worrying trends that threaten our fundamental rights and are increasing globally.”<\/p>\n

\u201cThe rules of war are being violated with almost complete impunity,\u201d he insisted, citing a \u201cdeep erosion of international law.\u201d<\/p>\n

He condemned the blatant disregard for international norms in several ongoing conflicts, specifically pointing to Israel\u2019s large-scale bombardment of Gaza, the civil war in Sudan, and Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Mr. T\u00fcrk also warned against a broader \u201cnormalization and glorification of violence\u201d that goes far beyond these individual cases.<\/p>\n
