Bien que l’Office des Nations Unies contre la drogue et le crime (ONUDC), ait déjà fourni les communications maritimes et les équipements maritimes nécessaires pour soutenir les forces de l’ordre en Somalie, la coopération internationale semble vitale pour résoudre les problèmes actuels de ce pays.
La Somalie est de plus en plus confrontée à des défis de taille, allant du terrorisme à la résurgence de la piraterie, en passant par la pauvreté et les conséquences du changement climatique, selon Ghada Waly, directrice exécutive de l’Office des Nations Unies contre la drogue et le crime (ONUDC).
Différents types de menace, notamment piraterie, pêche illégale, trafics et contrebande, ainsi que terrorisme, toutes soutenues par le blanchiment d’argent et la corruption, ont eu de graves conséquences en Somalie et bien au-delà. Une conséquence directe de ces défis peut être évidente dans le risque imposé à la paix et à la sécurité internationales, mettant en danger la vie des gens de mer et perturbant les routes commerciales dont dépendent de nombreux pays pour leur stabilité économique, leur sécurité alimentaire et leur développement durable.
Un autre problème important qui mérite d’être pris en considération est l’explosion des ressources marines de la Somalie provoquée par des flottes de pêche étrangères non réglementées, menaçant la biodiversité et les moyens de subsistance dans l’océan Indien…
