UNICEF launches 2016 humanitarian appeal for 2.8 billion dollars

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on Tuesday launched an appeal for 2.8 billion dollars in 2016 to help 43 million children caught in humanitarian crises around the world.

For the first time, most of the amounts involved in this appeal – 25% – will go to education of children in emergencies, UNICEF says in a press release stressing that the Syrian crisis causes a soaring needs in this area.

This year, UNICEF plans to significantly increase the number of children get access to education in emergency situations, raising it from 4.9 million figure set for early 2015 to 8.2 million in 2016. More than half – five million – will be of Syrian children living inside the country or in neighboring countries (…)
