Clashes erupted Sunday morning on the esplanade of the Mosques in the Old City of Jerusalem between Israeli police and Muslim a few hours to the celebration of the Jewish New Year.

According to Muslim witnesses, Israeli police entered the Al-Aqsa mosque, the third place of Islam and caused damage. The clashes occurred when tensions rose around the Temple Mount (the Temple Mount to Jews) following the decision of the Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon in which he said on Wednesday that the movement « Mourabitoun », a Muslim group largely informal which claims to defend the Temple Mount, is « illegal ».
