Human rights defenders deeply concerned about arrests of transition leaders in Mali

Nine months after the last coup in Mali, the military arrested the Transitional President, Bah N’Daw, and his Prime Minister, Moctar Ouane, and some of their collaborators. The two leaders were brought Monday evening to the Kati military camp about fifteen kilometers from the capital Bamako.

The United Nations and human rights defenders deeply concerned by these arrests call for calm and the unconditional release of the leaders of the transition.

The UN has demanded the immediate and unconditional release of the two transitional leaders and stressed that the military elements detaining them will be held personally responsible for their security.
