Le continent s’est réchauffé d’environ +0,3 °C par décennie entre 1991 et 2023, ce qui place l’année 2023 parmi les trois années les plus chaudes des 124 années de relevés climatique, comme le souligne le rapport de l’OMM sur l’état du climat en Afrique 2023.
L’Afrique se trouve à un tournant décisif dans la lutte contre le changement climatique, confrontée à un fardeau disproportionné en raison des impacts climatiques et des coûts d’adaptation, selon un nouveau rapport de l’Organisation météorologique mondiale (OMM).
Alors que les températures augmentent plus vite que la moyenne mondiale, le continent est confronté à un avenir où les sécheresses extrêmes, les inondations et l’insécurité alimentaire deviennent la norme.
Aujourd’hui, l’extrême vulnérabilité de l’Afrique aux chocs climatiques bouleverse la vie de millions de personnes, provoquant des crises humanitaires massives. Ces crises affectent gravement l’agriculture, la sécurité alimentaire, l’éducation, les infrastructures, la paix, la santé publique, et le développement socio-économique général, tout en alimentant les déplacements et les migrations, et en aggravant les conflits autour des ressources en diminution.
Au cours des 60 dernières années, l’Afrique a enregistré un réchauffement plus rapide que la moyenne mondiale. En 2023, le continent a connu des vagues de chaleur meurtrières, de fortes pluies, des inondations, des cyclones tropicaux et des sécheresses prolongées, a déclaré le Secrétaire général de l’OMM.
