La violence basée sur le genre au Nigéria : Un fléau majeur
Les femmes nigérianes souffrent de violences sous diverses formes — à la maison, au travail et dans la communauté. Ces femmes ne sont pas des statistiques, mais des mères, des filles, des sœurs et des épouses qui endurent des souffrances quotidiennes parce que le système les abandonne.
La violence basée sur le genre (VBG) au Nigéria touche principalement les femmes et les filles, avec des formes courantes telles que les violences physiques, sexuelles, les mutilations génitales féminines et le harcèlement sexuel. Environ 20 millions de Nigérianes sont affectées, représentant 10 % des 200 millions de victimes mondiales.
Les statistiques montrent que 31 % des femmes âgées de 15 à 49 ans ont subi des violences physiques et 9 % des violences sexuelles. De nombreux cas ne sont jamais signalés, car plus de la moitié des victimes ne cherchent pas d’aide.
La violence est exacerbée par des facteurs culturels, juridiques et sociaux, et les femmes restent souvent impuissantes face à l’absence de justice. Cette situation touche non seulement les victimes, mais aussi leurs familles et la société dans son ensemble, en alimentant un cycle de pauvreté et de traumatismes générationnels.
