Despite the recent UN resolution, Israel announces new construction

The anti-colonization NGO Ir Amim announced that, despite the recent UN resolution calling for an end to colonization in the occupied Palestinian territories, an Israeli planning committee is due to discuss the issuance of a building permit for 618 properties in East Jerusalem on Wednesday.

Discussions will include the issuance of a permit for the construction of housing in the districts of Pisgat Zeev (140), Ramat Shlomo (262) and Ramot (216), in East Jerusalem, the Palestinian part of the occupied holy city annexed By Israel, the Israeli NGO said.

The UN resolution, the first to condemn Israeli settlement since 1979, was approved Friday by 14 countries of the 15-member Security Council.

Israeli settlement is considered by the international community to be illegal and the main obstacle to peace.
